Mia Sohn, violin

After graduating from Seoul National University, Miss Mia Sohn has been studying under Professor Eduard Melkus at the Vienna Hochschule für Musik of Austria (used to be known as the Vienna Music Academy) for the past four years. She is currently a member of Wienen Frauen Chamber Orchestra which concertizes throughout Europe. In 1987, Miss Sohn was selected as the only violinist to be chosen from Korea to join the World Orchestra of Federation of International Jeunesse Music with which she traveled extensively in Europe, Canada, and Japan. She premiered the Ballade for a Violin and Orchestra by Mr. Natsuda Shoko, one of the leading Japanese composers, with the Orchestra in Japan where she received raving reviews from critics. One Japanese critic called her exceptionally talented and having excellent comprehension of the contemporary music. She later joined the prestigious Seoul Chamber Orchestra and performed widely in Korea and Japan. She is selected to play in the Most Promising Young Musicians Abroad Concert Series in Vienna which is sponsored by the Keksuk Music Magazine, in April of this year. As Korea produces many high caliber musicians being trained and performing throughout the world, it is considered a very high honor to be selected for this concert series. She has participated in the Salzburg Music Festival of Mozart Conservatorium. She studied with Professors Min Chong Park and Yong Yun Kim at Seoul National University where she served as the concertmistress of the University Orchestra.
