"Jacqueline" Jeeyoung Kim appointed first resident composer of the Korean Concert Society

Korean-born composer "Jacqueline" Jeeyoung Kim, educated in Korea and the United States, was appointed as the first composer-in-residence of the Society for a term to last from 2003 through 2005. She will be presenting her works at the annual recital series at the Kennedy Center, and through other concerts presented by the Society. She will also be advising the board on creative and development processes to expand the Society's activities in discovering, supporting, and presenting young musical talents. Wanderlust for unaccompanied clarinet was composed for Won-Jin Jo and will be premiered by Won-Jin at the recital. Kim was trained at Yonsei University in Korea, and Indiana University and Yale University in the U.S. She has won many prestigious awards and recognitions in the U.S. Her work has been performed frequently in the U.S. as well as in Korea. She is considered as one of the most talented Korean-born composers in her generation, and among the most active composers in the U.S. today. Most recently, she was commissioned by Yo-Yo Ma's Silk Road Ensemble. Her work Tryst, a trio for cello, oboe, and kayagum (Korean zither), was performed by the Ensemble in the U.S. and Europe.
